At Harvard University's 2025 Commencement, Yurong "Luanna" Jiang delivered a powerful and moving address. She began with a humorous anecdote about deciphering a washing machine with Chinese labels, which led to a reflection on the world becoming a "small village" and the vision that humanity "rises and falls as one". Despite the growing division, fear, and conflict in the world today, she emphasized that the most valuable lesson gained at Harvard was learning to "sit with discomfort, listen deeply, and stay soft in hard times". Jiang urged graduates not to forget those labeled as enemies, as "they too are human" and in seeing their humanity, we find our own. She concluded by stating that "we do not rise by proving each other wrong; we rise by refusing to let one another go", reminding the Class of 2025 to hold onto their shared humanity, which binds us deeper than belief.
